Dietetics Rural and Indigenous Placement Fund
Building a healthier future for food and nutrition starts with recognizing the unique needs of Indigenous and rural communities across BC, home to over 270,500 Indigenous people—half of whom live in rural or small communities. Addressing these needs aligns with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action #23 and #24, which emphasize Indigenous leadership in healthcare and culturally competent training for professionals.
The Dietetics Rural and Indigenous Placement Fund provides dietetics students with valuable hands-on experience in these communities, learning directly from Indigenous leaders and residents about local food traditions, health priorities, and cultural practices. However, financial barriers can make these transformative placements difficult to access.
Your donation today can help cover the additional costs of relocating for these placements, ensuring that talented dietetics students can engage meaningfully with rural and Indigenous communities without financial stress. By supporting this fund, you’re contributing to a future where food and nutrition professionals are equipped with the cultural insight and practical experience needed to support Indigenous health and wellness.
Please join us this UBC Giving Day to make these important community connections possible. With your support, dietetics students will have the resources to thrive and succeed as they learn to help build the health of our communities.
