FAQs

UBC Giving Day

When is UBC Giving Day?
UBC Giving Day is on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

How can I get involved?
You can make a gift to a cause that matters to you, share the campaign with your community and take part in Giving Day activities. You can also watch live fundraising progress throughout the day on our website.

Can I choose where my donation goes?
Yes. You can give to any featured Giving Day fund or project. If the fund you want isn’t listed, you can still make your gift using the General Giving Day Donation Form and it will count toward the Giving Day total.

What makes giving on this day special?
Gifts made on April 8 can go even further by unlocking bonus funds through UBC Giving Day Challenges. That means your donation may unlock extra support for the cause you care about.

When did Giving Day start at UBC?
UBC hosted its first university-wide Giving Day in 2021, and it is now an annual tradition.

Does one day actually make a difference?
Yes. Giving Day shows what is possible when many people give together. Collective generosity has helped launch new programs, support research and expand student access to education.

Giving Day Challenges

What are Giving Day Challenges?
Challenges are opportunities to increase the impact of your gift. When certain goals are met or when donations are matched, additional funding is unlocked to support a specific cause or project.

There are two types of Challenges:

  • A Bonus Challenge unlocks a leadership gift once a target number of donors give. Example: When 50 donors give to the UBC Blue & Gold Bursary, a $5,000 Bonus Challenge gift unlocks.
  • Match Challenges multiply donor impact by doubling or tripling gifts within a set limit. Example: All gifts to the UBC Blue & Gold Bursary will be matched dollar for dollar up to $10,000.

Which gifts count toward challenges?
Gifts made online through the Giving Day website on April 8 count toward Challenge totals*.

How are challenge funds allocated to Giving Day causes?
Each Challenge has unique conditions. Full details will be available on the Giving Day Challenges page.

How can I become a Challenge Donor?
Challenge Donors inspire others to give by leading with a significant gift. If you’d like to learn more about becoming a Challenge Donor, contact our team member, Yasemin Ozbay at [email protected].
